Test Case Training
Project Summary
This project began with a clear need shared by a subject matter expert: quality assurance engineers were writing test case scenarios that didn’t fully test the software—leading to missed bugs and potential safety risks. To address this, I designed an approachable, microlearning-based e-learning unit that helps engineers understand expectations and build confidence in writing effective, detailed test cases.
Learning Solutions
In close collaboration with the subject matter expert, I created a one-hour, asynchronous training unit delivered through Canvas LMS. The course is broken into four short modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of writing strong test cases. After reviewing a quick lesson, learners complete a short interactive activity that reinforces the concept. This format supports flexible, self-paced learning across global time zones and gives engineers the chance to practice and improve with immediate feedback. By the end of the unit, learners are better equipped to evaluate test cases and feel more confident applying those standards in their daily work.
Elevate Learning
To make the learning feel manageable and relevant, I used a microlearning approach—delivering short, focused lessons that build on each other. Practice activities in each module help learners apply what they’ve learned right away, and immediate feedback helps them reflect and adjust. The bite-sized format also makes it easy to revisit modules anytime, whether for a refresher or team onboarding.
Ensure Access
Because the team works across time zones and includes both ESL learners and team members with varied accessibility needs, I made inclusive design a top priority. All content is fully asynchronous and primarily text-based to support screen readers and translation tools. I also replaced image-based test cases with live text using the Canvas LMS rich text editor so learners using assistive technology or translation apps could interact with the material more easily. These choices helped make the learning more flexible and inclusive for everyone.
Support Mastery
Each module includes a short quiz where learners review and analyze sample test cases, with instant feedback to guide their understanding. They can retake these activities as often as needed, building toward full mastery at their own pace. The final module includes a summative activity and a short self-assessment, giving learners a chance to reflect on their growth and confirm their readiness to apply what they’ve learned. Using real-world test case examples increases engagement and ensures skills are immediately applicable.
Clarify Content
Throughout the design process, I worked closely with the subject matter expert to ensure the lessons were clear, relevant, and easy to follow. I used real-world examples, clean layouts, and interactive elements to help simplify complex ideas and keep learners engaged. The Canvas LMS made it easy to organize the content, provide feedback, and support learners who needed a little extra help along the way.
