Learn a Little

About Me

Hi, I’m Barbara Williams—an instructional designer with a background in education, graphic and web design, and a deep curiosity about how people learn. I bring together design thinking, instructional strategy, and accessibility to create learning that connects, empowers, and inspires.

My Background

I hold a master’s degree in Educational Technology and Instructional Design and have experience teaching, designing, and supporting learning across a range of platforms and audiences. My approach is grounded in research-backed methods like Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and learning science, and brought to life through clear structure, engaging visuals, and thoughtful pacing.

I’ve worked with subject matter experts, educators, and adult learners in higher education and professional training environments, designing everything from Canvas courses to microlearning modules and online training.

My Design Philosophy

At the heart of my work is a belief that learning should be clear, meaningful, and accessible to everyone. I approach instructional design as both a creative and strategic process, where thoughtful visual design meets sound learning theory to create experiences that resonate with real people. I aim to meet learners where they are, support their growth, and design with flexibility and empathy in mind. Whether I’m designing a self-paced module or an interactive workshop, I focus on helping learners connect with the content, build confidence, and succeed on their own terms.

Otherwise Occupied

When I’m not designing learning experiences, you might find me sketching ideas for illustrations,  snapping photos on my morning walks, or diving into a new creative project.
